I’m chaperoning my first major field trip this weekend. Me and a whole bunch of 7th graders. As excited as I am, I’m a little nervous as well. And since I tend to think in worst case scenarios, here are some of the things that I am worrying about:

  • Losing a child – I’ve lost a child on a trip before. At a very small watermark, and she did what she was supposed to do. So there were only ten minutes of panic and everyone was okay. But still. Can that not happen in the middle of a big city?
  • Being bored – Oddly enough, I do think about this. I don’t really know any of the other chaperones, and the students I am chaperoning want to go to sneaker stores. SNEAKER STORES. How am I supposed to survive?
  • Causing mayhem – 7th graders can be LOUD. My students like making noise. Any noise possible. It’s annoying and shrill, and if that happens during the Broadway show, I WILL pitch a fit.
  • Getting everywhere on time – If it were just me, I wouldn’t be worried. But me and a bunch of 7th graders? Will we be able to move through the crowds okay?
  • One of them running off to join Broadway – it could happen, right?

What should I bring the kids to see?
