I’m sure I’m not the only romance author out there living for Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle. I mean, it’s practically right out of a novel. In fact, it echoes one of my favorite novels in many ways, The Royal We, by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan. (Have you read it yet? If not, please do. Let’s talk about it.) So for today’s blog, I thought I’d combine two of my favorite things: The Royal We and Broadway Dreamcasts.

So if they were to make The Royal We into a Broadway show (which they should), here’s who I’d want to see cast (NOTE: I am casting slightly on the older side because of the number of years the book covers and because people usually read slightly younger onstage).

Jessie Mueller as Bex Porter – I adore Jessie Mueller in almost everything. She’s a great actress and has a lovely voice. I think she’d be a fantastic Bex because she’s got the down-home quality I think Bex needs, as well as the elegance she’d need to become a princess (she’s already played a misfit princess before and was FABULOUS in Into the Woods).

Zachary Levi as Nick – Okay, okay, I know he’s not ACTUALLY British, but hear me out. He can do a British accent (Thor), he can play nerdy enough for the Devour marathons (Chuck), and he can be charming AND a good singer at the same time (She Loves Me). He’d be the lovable prince you’d root for.

Eddie Redmayne as Freddie – Look, I know he’s never done a Broadway musical, but we know he can sing. He’s just so delightfully playful and charming, and kind of a ginger. Plus, he plays heartbroken so well.

Betsy Wolfe as Lacey – Am I cheating because both she and Jessie played Jenna in Waitress, so now I’m making them twins? You bet. But seriously, in addition to being mega talented, Betsy is adorable and bubbly, so I think she’ll make Lacey attractive and sympathetic.

Sierra Boggess as Cilla – Bex needs a fun English best friend who can be supportive and sassy at the same time. I think Sierra Boggess fits the bill. Not only is she well acquainted with all things England, but in real life, she has such a great personality that I already want to be her best friend. She’d be great in the role.

Andrew Kober as Gaz – Gaz is my favorite character in The Royal We, so I had a hard time choosing someone to play the loud, lovable, silly, cuddly friend of Bex and Nick. The She Loves Me connection brought me to Andrew Kober, who has long been one of my favorites. He’s funny and delightful to watch onstage. He’d be perfect.

That’s it for now. To be continued…?
