What’s this all about?

This page is intended to let you know what personal information I collect about you, why I collect it, what I will do with it, and how you can choose how I use it.

Privacy is very important to me, and so I take your privacy seriously too. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have any of your information at all. This policy sets out exactly what information I’ll ask you for and how I’ll use it.

Cookies

This website uses Google Analytics cookies (and/or other similar analytics product) to help me understand how the site is used and what I could do to improve it. These cookies do not collect any personal information about you, and I cannot use these cookies to identify you. You will be given the option to opt-in to the use of these cookies when you visit my site. If you object to the use of these cookies, you can click the “C” icon in the bottom-left corner (on a desktop) to change your preferences.

Emails and newsletters sent to members of my mailing list also contain cookies. These cookies identify whether you have opened an email and/or clicked a link within the email. These cookies record things like your email address, IP address, date and time you opened an email and/or clicked a link. They help me see whether an email has performed well or if I need to make some changes in the emails I send you. If you object to the use of these cookies, you must unsubscribe from my newsletter; the link is at the bottom of every email I have sent you.

Comments

When leaving a comment on this website, you will be asked for

  • your name, which will be used to identify you within the discussion
  • your email address, which helps prevent spam as well as allowing you to use services like Gravatar to show a photo next to the comment
  • your website URL, which is optional.

This information will be used by the spam filter I have installed, Askimet, to help prevent my site from being flooded by spam. It will also be stored within my site’s database in order to keep your comment on display. I will never share the information you provide when posting a comment, nor will I use it to contact you. You have the right to request that I remove this information from my database and delete the comment; if you would like to make such a request, please contact me (my email address is at the bottom of the page).

Mailing list

When you sign up to my mailing list, I ask you for:

  • your email address, so I know where to send the email.

When you sign up, you will be asked to provide your consent to receive email communications and customized online advertising. Your information will be stored by Mailerlite, in accordance with their privacy policy.

Email communications

If you agree to receive email communications, your email address will be used to send you my email newsletter. I tend to email my fans when I have a new book out, when I’m running a deal on a book I’ve already published, or if I’m involved in an ebook promotion I think they’d like. You can unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any newsletter or contacting me.

Customised online advertising

If you agree to your information being used for customized online advertising, I may use your email address to help better target adverts to customers on platforms such as Facebook and Google, or to show you adverts on these platforms. You can object to the use of your information in this way at any time by contacting me.

Please note that opting out of customized online advertising doesn’t mean you’ll never see adverts about my books; Facebook, Google, and similar platforms can still show you ads unless you amend your preferences on those sites.

The principles behind using your information

  • I will only use your information with your explicit consent.
  • You can provide or withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Your privacy is important to me, and it will always be the most important consideration when I use your information.
  • The only times I will use your information without your consent is if I have a legal or contractual obligation to do so.

Once again, if you have any questions, or if you ever feel uncomfortable with the way I’m using your information, please tell me (my email address is at the bottom of the page).
