With Solo coming out this weekend, I’ve been thinking a lot about Star Wars. In my hazy morning mind, I decided it would be a cool musical. Though I know it’s been tried before, here’s my idea for a dream cast for a potential musical based on the first film…

Luke Skywalker – Aaron Tveit – He’s just got the sweet, all-American looks that young Mark Hamill. Plus, from Next to Normal and Catch Me If You Can, we know he can do teenage brooding really well.

Princess Leia – Christy Altomare – She’s got princess experience. Her Anya has spunk and power, all in a tiny package. It reminds me a bit of the late, great Carrie Fisher. I’d like to see her carry on in those space boots.

Han Solo – Benjamin Walker – Ben Walker is handsome in that gruff, manly, Harrison Ford kind of way. Add to that a supreme ability to play smartasses (see Andrew Jackson) and people with hearts of gold (see Abraham Lincoln), and he has the perfect mix for Han.

Obi Wan Kenobi – Terrence Mann – My friend Christine gave me this idea, and it is PERFECT. Terrance has the gravitas to play the ultimate mentor as well as the eyeroll to be annoyed at the youngins causing problems. I’d love to see him dawn a Jedi cloak and wield a lightsaber.

C3PO – Tony Sheldon – I love Tony Sheldon. He’s sweet and excited. And he has so much energy. I think it would be perfect for the neurotic C3PO (and a robot can play R2D2).

Darth Vader – Norm Lewis – Okay, I’ll be honest. I chose him because of his voice. We all know Darth Vader needs a deep, commanding voice. And have you heard Norm Lewis? No? Well, I suggest you do. It’s all about the voice.

Chewbacca – Chewbacca – I mean, he’s irreplaceable. And that voice? Ugh, perfectly melodious.
