I was lucky enough to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway the other day. It was one of the most magical experiences I’ve ever had in the theater. It also reminded me of everything I loved about Harry Potter, and how much it’s meant to me over the years. The following are just a few of the reasons I fell in love with the series…

The magic – I mean, who doesn’t love a little bit of magic? With the flick of a wand, the characters could defeat enemies, fly, or make a suit of armor come to life. It’s something I think we all want to do, and J.K. Rowling managed to make it effortless and real. Like maybe someday, we could be magic too.

The Cinderella story – I’m a sucker for a good Cinderella story, and what better one is there than the orphan who found out he was a wizard, destined to save a society? Harry had his problems and his flaws, but he was always someone we could route for. He was someone who knew the worst and made the best.

The camaraderie – When we were sitting in that theater, the audience gasped at the same time, cheered, sighed. People came in costumes, they complimented one another, they were kind. This is something I’ve found in the Harry Potter universe, wherever I’ve seen it. We all love it, which means we all care about one another. We’ve shared the Harry Potter experience. It’s made us one. It’s the most magical thing I’ve seen.
