We teachers are entering into our summer breaks (hooray!), and I am more excited than ever. Here in upstate NY, we’ve already encountered our fair share of warm days. Sometimes the only thing that gets me through a day like that is a wonderful Broadway cast recording. So here are my favorite summer Broadway listens:

Aida – The summer makes me think of the heat. This musical, set in ancient Egypt, certainly brings the heat. It features a love triangle and a steamy love between its main two characters. Not to mention, there’s a killer score from Elton John. It’s the perfect mix for a pool party.

The Book of Mormon – Or maybe you’d rather have a good laugh this summer. Like Aida, The Book of Mormon is set in an African climate. Enjoy nonstop laughs while the characters find their way in a new land and you have to mow your lawn.

Disaster – The opening number says it all: this musical is “hot stuff.” Disaster is another laugh-a-minute musical, but the best part of it is the music is all from the golden era of disco. Sponsor a summer dance party under the stars where you can listen to some of Broadway’s best.

Once on This Island – I’ve just fallen in love with this musical, and I can’t get up. If you’re stuck inside on a rainy summer day, turn on this cast recording. The music is melodious and bright. Before long, you’ll be dancing on the island with them.

Frozen – Or maybe you need a nice cool down in the summer. Then Frozen is the choice for you. Trust me, listening to Caissie Levy will leave you with chills.

Hamilton – Because when isn’t a good time to listen to Hamilton? Haha.
