We teachers are entering into our summer breaks (hooray!), and I am more excited than ever. Here in upstate NY, we’ve already encountered our fair share of warm days. Like most of the Broadway community, I was pretty hyped up about NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar this week. And it was good! I’m hoping they film all musicals as concerts from here on out. I really enjoyed it (and I’ve never seen JCS before – what?). There are so many musicals I’d like to see them put on as live TV specials, that I think they could do something really special with. I’ve just started teaching Hamilton for the year (using much of the musical, duh), and it’s really gotten me thinking about historical musicals. I love these pieces that bring music and humanity to real-life people. In addition to Hamilton, there are pieces like Anastasia and 1776, that I love. Here me out! I think Game of Thrones would be an amazing musical (I might be going through Game of Thrones withdrawal). I know that all of the Game of Thrones musicals out there are parodies, and there are WAAAAAAY too many movie-based musicals out there now, but I think Game of Thrones, particularly the first book/series, could potentially soar above the rest (with the right writers, of course). I’m a teacher. As such, I like to read what my students read, and so I read a lot of Young Adult books (also, let’s be honest, YA books are awesome). I’m also a Broadway enthusiast, which you probably realize if you read this blog or know me at all. Today, I am combining those two and making a list of the YA books I’d most like to see turned into Broadway musicals.
